8 South Devon Arts Centre 9 Lukesland Gardens
For a day out and only about 45-60 mins by car from Torbay is this mature 24-acre family-run garden at Ivybridge. ‘What a glorious, tranquil place – divine plants’ ‘Enchanting garden and a lovely cup of tea!’ are just some of the comments from visitors. Lukesland’s noted collection of camellias, rhododendrons, magnolias and azaleas provides a spectacular
show of colour in the Spring, against a wonderful backdrop of wild flowers. The tumbling Addicombe brook is criss-crossed by many charming and unusual bridges and its ponds and pools are home to wild birds, frogs and toads. With home-made soup and cakes served up by a log fire in the Victorian Tea Room and a Children’s Trail to keep the younger generation amused, these gardens have something for everyone. Dogs are welcome on a lead. They are open from 11am – 5pm on Sundays,
Wednesdays and all Bank Holidays For further details call 01752 691749 or go to

Stand up paddleboarding (SUP) is one of the fastest growing sports for all ages and sporting abilities. It’s an excellent form of exercise and great for core strength. It’s basically surfing with a paddle, therefore more stable and with less chance of falling off. Dart Adventures hires boards from a pontoon in Dittisham on the River Dart and holds training sessions for beginners and guided tours along the river and its many creeks. Board hire is from £25 and two hours instruction from £40, based on a group of six. Visit
dartadventures.co.uk for more tariffs and information.
