Regattas & Festivals summer 2015


South Devon has many festivals, events and regattas over the summer months such that there is always plenty to do whether you’re a visitor or resident. Highlights of this year’s events include:


WAYS WITH WORDS 3RD – 13TH JULY A vibrant and joyful 10-day event, a chance for those who read books to meet those who write them. The setting is glorious, the atmosphere is invigorating. People come together in spectacular surroundings at Dartington Hall to share the pleasure and power of language and ideas. Visit www.wayswithwords.co.uk


CLASSIC CHANNEL REGATTA 11 TH – 18TH JULY The Regatta is a very special event with a unique blend of racing, passage making and, of course, great boats and people. The regatta is biennial and runs for a week in July. It starts with two days of racing at Dartmouth followed by the Classic Channel Race to Paimpol. The yachts provide a wonderful spectacle whilst racing out in Start Bay or moored in the river.


KINGSBRIDGE FAIR WEEK 18TH – 25TH JULY A week of events. With live music, fireworks and different events for all ages. With a parade at the end of the week. Visit www. kingsbridgefairweek.co.uk for the full programme of events.


TOTNES & DISTRICT SHOW 26TH JULY Totnes Show attracts thousands of visitors, young and old and there is something for all of them! This year they have exciting demonstrations, displays and parades in the main ring as well as the Bartons Solicitors Entertainments Ring. Building on the popularity of previous years


the Acoustic Music Stage will run again with a variety of local talent to be enjoyed. Elsewhere on the showground watch out for the sheep, cattle, horses and show jumping classes where there is stiff competition for trophies and honours. Amongst a whole host of other things, there’s a Home & Handicrafts marquee, Craft Tent, Food Hall and a large Trade Stands section offering a wide choice of goods and services. www.totnesshow.com


KINGSWEAR REGATTA 25TH – 26TH JULY The Kingswear Regatta was held in August 2006 for the first time in 100 years and has been celebrated each year since. Taking place over two days the regatta is focused around rowing races on Waterhead creek. The first day consisting mostly of racing heats, the second day being much more of a family and village féte as well as the day on which racing finals are held. The regatta ends with a prize ceremony at Kingswear Village Hall.


TORBAY CARNIVAL 25TH JULY – 2ND AUGUST Torbay Carnival is a 9 day event organised on Paignton Green by a team of dedicated volunteers. The event has been running for over 100 years and started off as a 1 day event and procession which has now progressed into a 9 day event packed with free fun for all the family. The event includes; Live entertainment, day and night; Fun Fair; Craft Marquee and an arena filled with acts throughout the day such as Majorettes, Clowns, and much much
