May Teatre Royal Norwich

Oh cripes, if it’s a tearjerker you want, get down to the Teatre Royal this month to watch Te Boy in the Striped Pyjamas. You may have read the book. You may have watched the film. But seeing this is real life can’t be beat. It’s set in WWII; Bruno, the eight-year- old son of a concentration camp commandant forms a forbidden friendship with Shmuel, a Jewish boy on the other side of the wire. Just incredibly moving. Later in May JM Barrie’s classic tale of the boy who never grew up gets a new twist in Peter Pan Goes Wrong ;it follows the story of the Cornley Polytechnic Society whose members redefine accident-prone. Tis laugh-out- loud comedy is suitable for all ages. Pirates and that! Super.

15 - 16 May [Live] Art Club presents Richard Dedomenici: Te Redux Project Norwich Arts Centre

Want to be in Avengers? Or ‘Allo ‘Allo? COURSE YOU DO. Te Redux Project works with local volunteers to remake sections of popular films, shot for shot, in the original locations, with budget props, costumes and effects. It’s edited and premiered in front of an audience a few days later. Tis time around Richard plans to remake scenes from the forthcoming Hollywood superhero sequel Avengers: Age of Ultron, plus an old episode of the BBC’s ‘Allo ‘Allo!, both filmed locally. If you’re up for taking part in the filming, or just want to go see the result, get all the info at the Arts Centre website. Tis sounds completely genius to me.

23-24 May Earlham Park Café Open during Big Weekend!

Hakan and Ingrid have run the Earlham Park Café for over 14 years, 52 weeks of the year come rain or shine. Norwich City Council firstly told them that they’d need to close during the Big Weekend due to a safety issue. Ten it looked like the layout for the Big Weekend meant that the café would be backstage. People across Norwich shouted “you WHAT?” One of their loyal customers set up an online petition in the hope that the decision could be reversed, which then went viral and got over 12,000 signatures, not just from Norwich but from all over the world. Hakan and Ingrid were overwhelmed with the support. Norwich City Council met with Radio One, the layout changed and the Café will now be open for business during the weekend! Hoorah!! Hakan is hoping Taylor Swift pops in for a UEA Mega Breakfast as she is one of his top faves. High five Norwich! So proud of you.
