Lane, Fantwas broken into and tools including a Makita saw, a Makita drill and an angle grinderwere stolen. Therewas an unsuccessful aempt to break into a property in Lesley Place.
Pupils miss out on school places
NEARLY 2,500 primary pupils will not be going to their first choice school when the term starts in September. The county council says that while 96%
of children willwere given one of the three options favoured by their parents, 4% will be going elsewhere. A slightly improved 14,943 of parents
got their first-choice placement this year – up 427 on last, at nearly 86%. The total number of primary school places needed this year also increased for the eighth consecutive year to 17,415 – up 321 on 2014. Patrick Leeson, KCC’s corporate director
of education, said: “We are pleased to see that the number of both first and second

choices has increased. “However,we will not lose sight of the
fact that 4% of pupils have not been given a school from their preferences. While many will secure places throughwaiting lists and reallocation, I amaware that this will be a difficult time andwe will do all we can to offer a good outcome.” He added that the authoritywas creating hundreds of additional places – both for the start of the academic year 2015/16 and for September 2016. Sycamore must be replaced
A SYCAMORE tree at 22 Church Street, Maidstone is to be removed. Maidstone Council accepted a conservation area application, citing the harm itwas causing to a nearby ragstone boundarywall and concrete paving. A decision statement said: “The defects noted will get worse over time. The tree does not score high enough in an amenity evaluation to merit a tree protection order.” The council included a condition for the planting of a replacement tree.
Larch trees could be felled
A PLANNING application has been submied to fell three larch trees at 19 Greenwich Close, Maidstone. Maidstone Council will decide.
