Local plan consultation 8 Maidstone Borough Council

The council has decided on sites for housing and will consider employment and mixed use sites in the new council year starting in May before embarking on a further round of consultation.

The public will also be consulted on proposed gypsy sites and open space standards.

Thereafter, a full revised version of the local plan will be prepared and published for a final ‘Regulation 19’ public consultation and the plan could be submitted to the Planning Inspectorate for Examination early in 2016.

Multi agency action

Maidstone council has been working with KCC Highways, Southern Water and others to tackle surface water flooding at Marden Road, Staplehurst. The water was getting into foul water sewers causing them to overflow. The partners have cleared ditches, sealed and raised sewer manhole covers and upgraded a pumping station.

All the partners have committed to consider similar problems throughout the borough.

What would you do with £200?

The average home could save £200 by switching to new electricity and gas suppliers or tariffs.

The Big Maidstone Switch is open to everyone, whether they own or rent their home or pay their bills by Direct Debit, cash or pre-paid meter.

 First of all you'll need to register on the Big Maidstone Switch website.

 iChoosr will then go away, find low prices and contact you with an offer showing if and how much money you would save by switching.

 You then decide if you'd like to switch suppliers/tariffs.  iChoosr will then manage the switch on your behalf.

You don't have to switch if you don't want to. It's just an easier way to find out whether you could save money on your bills.

Transport work

Traffic modelling is being used to predict future increases in Maidstone’s traffic flows. Expert consultants are looking at Coldharbour Lane, Linton Crossroads, Coxheath, Staplehurst, Headcorn and Lenham.

Outline designs and estimated costs of improvement works will be prepared to guide future infrastructure planning and the developer contributions needed to pay for the improvements.
