Community call

Victims and communities now have new powers to help to put an end to anti-social behaviour.

The community trigger is a process which lets you ask your local Community Safety Partnership to review responses to incidents of anti-social behaviour. It can be used if you have reported at least three incidents of anti-social behaviour to a relevant organisation in the previous six months.

These are incidents where the same behaviour, nuisance, or problem has reoccurred and was reported within one month of it happening. For more information, or to raise a community trigger, complete an online form at www.maidstone.gov.uk.

‘Legal Highs’

Legal highs are designed to produce similar effects to drugs such as cocaine and ecstasy and are not covered by current misuse of drugs laws. But that does not mean they are safe or approved for people to use.

If you have any concerns about the use of legal highs you can contact the legal high helpline on 07793 619993, KCA on 01622 358902 or alternatively look online at - www.cri.org.uk/westkentrecovery- maidstone.php or www.kcayps.org.uk/

Restorative Justice Service

Victims of crime can suffer long lasting consequences for them and their families.

Restorative processes have been shown to deliver strong benefits for those that have suffered harm because of the actions of others.

Restorative processes are voluntary for all participants. If you want to talk to someone about how a crime has affected you, or to get more information about whether a restorative process can help you, contact Maidstone Mediation on 01622 692843 or email maidstonemediation@gmail.com

Smoke alarms

Fires happen when you least expect them, often during the night. They also spread very quickly, damaging property, injuring and killing people. But the real killer is smoke. If you’re asleep when a fire starts and you don’t have a smoke alarm to wake you, you are unlikely to survive. Smoke can suffocate you in just three breaths – you could be dead before the flames reach you.

If there is a fire, a smoke alarm will immediately warn you, giving you and everyone in your home time to escape to safety. Smoke alarms are cheap, available in most high street stores, supermarkets and DIY stores, and are easy to fit and maintain.

There are a variety of models to choose from, depending on your needs and budget.

Kent Fire and Rescue Service will be happy to give you free advice on the best approach for your home – just call us (free from most home phones, mobiles may charge) on 0800 923 7000 or email us at home@kent.fire-uk.org
