Call for land to build a footpath
RESIDENTSin busy Station Road, Ditton, are being asked to give up part of their properties so a public footpath can be built. The strip of unmade land in front
of their homes is frequently used by pedestrians because the foot- path on the other side is very nar- row, especially for pushchairs and mobility scooters. Families regularly use the route
to get to Aylesford and Ditton pri- mary schools and Ditton Church Pre-School, but the private stretch is uneven and pitted with potholes and puddles. Kent County Council has now written to residents on the south side of the road, near Priory Grove, asking them to give up some of their land for a footpath. Tonbridge and Malling Cllr Car-
ole Gale, ward councillor for Dit- ton, said that people could use the route as itwas an established right of way, but the residents were li- able as it was their land. She had been working on the issue for three

years and had received dozens of letters from people complaining about the route. But she was now hopeful that a “win-win situation” could be reached. KCC said its legal team had
asked residents to dedicate part of their property, but detailed design work would not take place until any land issueswere reduced. A spokesman said: “The con- struction of a new and hard-sur- faced publicly maintainable footway will be a much safer route and a great benefit to local pedes- trians, particularly young children, parents with pushchairs, the eld- erly and mobility-impaired.”
Rotary Club charity night
MORE than 100 people enjoyed a comedy night organised by Kings Hill Rotary Club in aid of the Haemophilia Society. Welcoming visitors to the event at RyarshVillage Hall, the club’s president, Matthew Clark, described the issues that confronted his brother, who had been a lifelong sufferer of haemophilia. After a fish and chip supper, the evening erupted into a contin-
uous round of banter as Kevin McCarthy, the compere of Outof-
BoundsComedy.co.uk, took to the stage and raised concerns about hisweight when the staging began to creak. The comedy continued with contributions from Stefano Paolini, Danny Ward and Bob Mills. The evening was rated excellent and may become a regular in
the Rotary Club’s programme. Kings Hill and Maidstone Riverside Rotary clubs will meet up for a joint evening on April 7 when presenter and film-maker Glo- ria Barnett will give a talk on “The World Beneath the Waves” – a guided tour of the world’s oceans and the incredible life within them. Tickets are £15, including supper, from
khrc09@yahoo.com. The event, at Oakwood House Hotel, Maidstone, starts at 7.15pm for 7.45pm and proceeds will go to the Rotary Foundation charity.
