RAF Cosford Allotments Resurrection C 52


ommunity Support at RAF Cosford are always looking at continuous improvement across the Station for the


good and benefit of service personnel and their families. The Community Development Officer at Cosford, never one to miss an opportunity, was delighted when the National Citizen Service ‘The Challenge’, West Midlands, got in touch offering their services to undertake a community project.


During a recent consultation with the community at Cosford it was discovered that families would like to resurrect the old disused allotments on the Station. This was an ideal project for ‘The Challenge Team’ to undertake so after several site meetings, risk assessments and deliberation, equipment was purchased to undertake the mammoth task and a team of 60 young people aged 15-17 years along with 6 staff members from

‘The Challenge’ embarked on clearing the overgrown allotments.


Kiran Bilkhu, Assistant Programme Manager for ‘The Challenge’ said ‘We are delighted to be able to work in partnership with RAF Cosford on such a worthy project that has enabled young people to gain new skills and work as part of a team to achieve


the task. I am proud of what they have achieved in 1 day’.


National Citizen Service is a government scheme which brings together groups of 60 young people from very different backgrounds. Groups are split into small teams of 12 and complete a four part programme over three weeks and four
