DART NOTES
Back in 2008 one of the UK’s prominent SUP competitors and Devon local John Hibbard, enquired about adding a SUP division to the event. The rowing clubs were extremely kind to allow a small group of local SUP paddlers to race the 8.5 mile course. Seven years on from that first
challenge and after last year’s 150 places being snapped up just 4 days after registration opened, this year there will be the opportunity for 300 paddlers to take up the challenge! Because of the substantial increase
in numbers, Head of the Dart Rowing organisers and event organisers for the SUP Challenge, local company Dart Adventures, have decided to hold the events separately for the first time. Jeremy Robinson of Dart Adventures said “We are looking forward to expanding the event once again this year and welcoming more people into the South Hams”. This year the Head of the Dart with be a 2 day event with the rowing taking place on Saturday 11th
April and the SUP Challenge on Sunday 12th. This is fast becoming the largest BusIer Than eVer!

enjoy DARTMOUTH TIME in print - with the May issue of By The Dart we plan to publish two magazines in one with a dedicated supplement highlighting all the key events taking place locally between Spring and Summer. A further issue is planned in August to cover the period from mid-Summer to Autumn. With a total distribution of 10,000 copies, the special supplement will also be available for pick up by visitors around the town and local villages. It will help them get the most out of their stay and be packed full of ideas on things to do. If you’re looking to plan what to do over coming weeks
and months, then make sure you visit our website which has the most comprehensive database of local events available online. In fact our site, which has attracted 100,000 visits in only its first year, is already the most extensive source of in- formation about Dartmouth. Not only is it packed full of content previously published in By The Dart magazine but has more useful information than any other website about local shops, restaurants, pubs & cafés, things to do, accom- modation, local businesses, local services and local clubs & associations. Over the next couple of months, we
willcomplete the final upload of information on every local business based in/around Dartmouth. If you own a business and want to make sure your company is included then get in touch by email -
mark@bythedart.co.uk. If you need to know anything about Dartmouth, then visiting By The Dart online is the first place to go.
And if that’s not enough to keep us busy this year, we plan even more new inititiatives. In May, we launch the first of our new TQ Magazines - this one will be distributed by Royal Mail to 20,000 homes in the TQ5 and TQ4 postcodes. If you own a company that does business in these areas, then there’ll be no more effective or affordable way to reach so many potential customers. As usual, get in touch by phone or email to get further details. And if we can manage all that, we have even more new ideas up our sleeves planned for later this year. Phew...
and most exciting annual SUP event on the UK calendar. SUP is one of the fastest growing sports in the world and as the sport has taken off and grown in the UK, so have the numbers of SUP competitors. The route of the Head of the Dart SUP Challenge offers stunning views as it meanders along between Totnes and Dartmouth, appealing to a broad section of the SUP community from seriously fit national racers through to recreational paddlers on all manner of boards.
Pushing the body to its physical limit is only optional though! Paddlers simply looking for a pleasant cruise down the river are equally welcome. In fact the spirit of the Head of the
Dart is of inclusiveness to all stand up paddle boarders, ensuring it’s the most eagerly anticipated date in the UK SUP calendar, offering the ultimate spectacle for both paddlers and onlookers. For more information go to:
