new custody cell. Mr Hall says the money could be secured through a community infrastructure levy (CIL), which is a vehicle for infra- structural developer contributions that the council is hoping to establish in the local plan. “The growth in population will
place significant greater demands on policing, particularly as the majority of these dwellings will be built on greenfield sites, where there is cur- rently no demand for these serv- ices.” AKent Police spokesman said: “Regardless of the outcome [of the planning application], residents can rest assured that Kent Police will continue to use every resource at its disposal to provide the best possible service for the people of Kent. “Kent Police objected to Maid-
stone Council’s local plan in May 2014, for the same reasons outlined.” A Maidstone Council spokesman
said: “Funding for community safety, including contributions to- wards policing, would be possible under the new community infra- structure levy if this was deemed necessary and appropriate. The council is working towards adopting CIL in parallel with the local plan process.”

Civic funeral for former mayor and councillor
A CIVIC funeral service is to be held for former mayor and long- serving councillor Peter Parvin, who died after a short illness. Cllr Parvin (80)was born in Lam-
bourn, Berkshire, the son of cham- pion steeplechase jockey Bill Parvin. He was educated at King Alfred’s School, Wantage and served five years in the Royal Air Force. He saw duty at home and all over
the Middle East, including tours in the Canal Zone and Aden. On leaving the RAF, he joined
Kent County Constabulary, subse- quently transferring to the Metro- politan Police where he eventually retired as a senior police officer. As a policeman in Kent, Peter
was barred from taking an active part in local politics, but finally bit the bullet in 1995, representing his then homeward of Leeds. At the time, he and his wife Daphne, also a councillor, were liv- ing in Caring Lane, where they set up a cattery. They later moved to a home near Mote Park.
They celebrated their diamond
wedding anniversary in September last year and together they have two children, seven grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren, mostly living in the Maidstone area.
Daphne is a member of both Hollingbourne and Stockbury parish councils, aswell as five bor- ough council committees. Peter, a Conservative, repre-
sented Leeds ward for 20 years up until his death, during which time he sat on most of the council’s com- mittees. He served both as chairman and vice-chairman of two of his favourite committees – licensing and standards – and also served on a number of outside bodies includ- ing Age UK, the Upper Medway Drainage Board and Maidstone- Beauvais Twinning Association. He was a trustee of a number of
local charities, including Maidstone Relief in Need and Brenchley Char- ity. He was Mayor of Maidstone in 2009-10. Away from the council chamber
Peter enjoyed gardening and one of his proudest claims to fame was being the winner of the biggest prize cabbage entered in the annual Leeds Amateur Garden Society Show. The election for Cllr Parvin’s re- placement will be held on Thurs- day, May 7, the same day as other borough council and parliamentary elections.
Tailor makes a 6” Mistake
If you were measured to have something tailor made for you, would you expect to be delivered shoes that are 2 sizes too small for you, or trousers 6 inches too big? Of course not. Yet thousands of people wear spectacle lenses that are incorrect by at least 17%. A recent European Optometry study showed that the average error by a trained optician measuring a person for varifocals was 5mm per eye. Even a 0.5mm error can cause eye-strain, It’s no wonder so many people have tried and failed to comfortably wear varifocal spectacles. Thousands more and swimming vision that these mis- measurements can cause. But why does this happen? You will probably remember that when most opticians measure you for varifocals they mark the lenses using
ruler measure the distance between your eyes. Buchanan Optometrists abandoned this inaccurate method 10 years ago, preferring instead to use a computerised measuring system that not only measures your pupil position to within 0.1mm but also takes into account several other measurements such as how the spectacle frame sits on your face. We are all different, so any frame you put on will sit differently. the distance the frame sits from your face, the angle of the frame, the curve of the frame, how your eyes work binocularly together. The end result? The most comfortable vision possible - or your money back. UK are off-the-shelf designs with your
prescription added to it - a crazy idea considering we all have different jobs, hobbies and lifestyles. Our varifocals are not off-the-shelf designs tailor made and completely individualised for you taking into account what you want to do with your lenses, your work, your lifestyle and leisure activities. Taking into account your precise computerised measurements and prescription.
