4 Maidstone Borough Council Thank You for voting!

Mote Park has taken the silver prize in the Green Flag People’s Choice Awards, beating last year’s winner and moving one place higher than its 2013 result!

Maidstone council’s Cabinet Member for Leisure and Culture, Councillor John Perry, said: “I am absolutely delighted that our residents and visitors have voted Mote Park as the nation’s second favourite park! With such strong competition across the country, this is a fantastic achievement, and testament to our volunteers and staff who work exceptionally hard all year round to keep the park at its best. Thank you to everyone who voted!”

Mote Park consultation

Thank you to everyone who took the time to complete our recent consultation about Mote Park. We had more than 1,500 responses, and some fantastic ideas about how we can either raise money to look after the park, or save money on its maintenance. All of the responses are being analysed and decisions on the next steps will be taken in the early part of 2015.

Cobtree Manor

Park visitor centre

Plans are in place for a new visitor centre and café at Cobtree Manor Park in Forstal Road, Aylesford which will replace the existing facilities. Work is due to start this spring and will provide residents with a new meeting place where they can enjoy

refreshments and learn about the park’s unique

history. The project is funded by the Cobtree Charity Trust. Look out for a progress update in the next Borough Update. The Cobtree team has just published a new self-guided tree trail designed for visitors to learn about the park’s illustrious

arboretum, the planting of which started in 1980. Hard copies of the tree trail are available from the Ranger at Cobtree or as a pdf by emailing a request to parksandleisure@maidstone.gov.uk

Run England course

Walkers, joggers and seasoned runners alike can make the most of Mote Park following the installation of a Run England marked route by park volunteers. The route, which is five kilometres long, starts and ends at the café. It takes runners on an undulating route past Mote House, the historic waterfall, boat house and lake, offering beautiful views across the park.
