East Malling and Larkfield Parish Council A20 traffic issues and new housing
At the suggestion of Ditton Parish Council, a meeting was recently held with councillors from that parish and Aylesford parish to discuss the idea raised by Ditton of opening Bellingham Way to the public. Local borough councillors were also present. Currently, the first section of the road from the New Hythe Lane/Leybourne Way roundabout is an adopted public road as far as the Aylesford newsprint gate, but the section from there to Station Road is a private road, only usable by those having a pass. Views were put both for and against, and it was generally agreed that the route was not suitable for through lorry traffic given the restrictions at Aylesford village. Mention was made of the new houses now being built in Station Road and generally the 400 likely to be built at Allington within Maidstone but with other sites would impact on the A20 between Coldharbour and Lunsford Lane. Additional houses are also to be built off the adopted section of Bellingham Way. It was agreed a joint approach be made by the three councils about the traffic issues of the A20 corridor.
Marlowe Road Green
The parish council is chasing its solicitors to complete the registration of its title to this green. It is understood there are delays at the Land Registry. Once registered the parish will apply to have the green given "village green status" to improve its long-term protection.
Briar Close path
The parish council in consultation with KCC Cllr Trudy Dean is getting a quote to provide a rail by the path and steps from Briar Close to the crossing in New Hythe Lane, Larkfield.
Railway Path Crossing, East Malling.
Railtrack has replaced the stiles by gates for the footpath crossing (path MR103) east of East Malling station and which was suggested by the parish sometime ago. A path link on each side also now connects to the platforms of this unmanned station.
Gighill Road, Larkfield KCC is replacing the existing road humps across Gighill Road with the "cushion" type so as to make a smoother route for

Although most of the street lights across the parish are KCCs, the parish council has received a flurry of complaints about lights being on all day and from people who go to work early in the morning about the county council's decision to move to part night lighting. The issues are being taken up with KCC.
Larkfield Road taxi office
In response to residents’ concerns, the parish council has raised with borough planners the proposed change of use of offices in Larkfield Road to a taxi business already in operation. The road already gets congested at peak times due to the three banks in the parade of shops as the private car park is now inadequate. The planning application can be viewed on the Tonbridge and Malling Council website.
Parish walk Parish council chairman David Thornewell will be leading the annual Larkfield Parish Circular Walk from outside Larkfield Library on Sunday, March 1 at 2.30pm. The intended route is to Manor Park and back. All welcome.
Heath Farm sports and country park area A request to the borough council to register the new sports fields and informal country park areas at Heath Farm as "community assets" has been supported. The process allows areas such as these in private ownership to be put on a register and if at any time they are threatened the local councils and community would have the possibility to purchase them. While there is no reason to think the developers of Kings Hill who manage the areas will not continue to do so it was felt placing on the register was a long-term safequard.
Tonbridge and Malling local plan review.
Notification has been received that the draft local plan review is not now to take place until the summer. The plan is likely to propose new areas for housing to meet the Government’s national planning policies as well as updating other plan policies. Meanwhile the parish has asked the borough council how recent ministerial statements about protecting the green belt impact on the review and the local countryside.
