More than 100 singers strong

THERE are now more than a hundred reasons for the success of West Malling Community Choir. That is the number of singers who have joined its ranks since it began on a trial basis three years ago.

The choir began life in February 2012 after KCC Cllr Trudy Dean suggested a pilot scheme for six weeks to gauge interest. All ages were welcome with no audition or experience needed.

The response was amazing with 50 people attending the first meeting and the six-week trial was enjoyed so much that everyone voted to make the choir a permanent fixture.

Since then, the choir has gone from strength to strength, performing at a number of concerts and supporting the Eynsford Concert Band. The choir is starting rehearsals for its Easter and summer concerts. Songs include “Windmills of Your Mind” from the film “The Thomas Crown Affair” and “May The Good Lord Bless and Keep You” from the final episode of the BBC1 series “Call The Midwife”.

The choir offers a warm welcome to anyone who would like to go along to the Baptist Church in Swan Street, West Malling on Tuesdays at 7.15pm. You don’t need to be able to read music. Just love to sing? – Join the choir and have some fun.

HIGH speed trains operating at peak times from Maidstone West to St Pancras now stop at Snodland. The first train to stop there on January 12 was celebrated with the provision of a light breakfast for passengers. At off peak times passengers can travel to Strood to join the trains which take about 45 minutes to the capital. KCC Cllr Trudy Dean, who attended the launch, said the

new service was “excellent news” and urged residents to try it. She said: “It gives people in Malling a fast comfortable

service into St Pancras, avoiding the problems in London Bridge. Give it a go.”

Cllr Dean chairs West Malling

Parish Council which is represented on the Kent Community Rail Partnership. The group covers the Medway Valley Line between Strood and Paddock Wood and has long called for improvements to the high speed service.

Services stop at Snodland from

Monday to Friday at 07.01, 07.31 and 08.01, returning at 17.16,17.46 and 18.16.
