January Norwich Soup Movement

Chip and Amy decided to start the Norwich Soup Movement in 2013 to help and recognise the needy of Norwich. Tey started with a tin can drive at Te Mischief and were overwhelmed with food. Tey now have over 100 volunteers, their food supply is continuously topped up with donations of tins, veggies that then get turned into soup, and monthly cash donations. Te Owl Sanctuary have been a massive part of this fab project, asking people to bring tin donations to all their gigs.

People can get involved by donating their time once or twice a month. Soup runs will be three nights a week from the start of 2015; it starts at 8pm and takes about an hour. And if you’re able to cook up big batches of lovely home cooked food to serve they’ll even reimburse the cost of the ingredients. Cash donations are also very welcome. Email soupysalvation@gmail.com for more details or check out their Facebook page. It’s cold out there people, so let’s do what we can.

If you’re a soaps fan you’ll be eager to get your mitts on some tickets for the stage version of the Peter James detective novel Dead Simple on Jan 20-24 at the Teatre Royal. Tina Hobley from Corrie and Jamie Lomas from Eastenders will be starring in this thriller where Roy Grace investigates the disappearance of Michael Harrison who vanishes into thin air after a stag night prank goes horribly wrong. Ending the month will be the amazing feelgood comedy Sister Act, which tells the story of nightclub singer Deloris van Cartier who finds herself in protective custody in a convent. Running from January 26-31, it sees the Norfolk and Norwich Operatic Society bring the hit musical to the stage. Whoopee!

January Scratch performances Te Garage

Te Garage hold two supercool Scratch performances in January, ideal for expanding your cultural horizons in original theatre. Te 23rd of January sees a work in progress performance following a 5-day theatre residency. Tanja is a one-woman drama telling the true life events of a detainee in Yarl’s Wood. Te Date, on 30th January, is a show about sex in the 21st Century, loneliness and friendship. A touching show inspired by a real life experiment where two dancers with modern attitudes towards relationships, are asked to date. Both shows are free but donations are gladly accepted.
