Association Corner AngelTrax Bus Video sponsored the recent Georgia Associa-


tion for Pupil Transportation fishing tournament. Tere were more than 300 confirmed attendees at the conference, which yielded 24, two-person teams. Two prizes were awarded after the inaugural tournament. Danny Roundtree from Washington County School District caught the largest fish of the day with a 1-pound Bluegill. Te team that brought in the most fish for the day was Kevin Richardson and Lee Dendy from Walker County Schools, catching 17 total.


Te South Dakota Department of Education contracted with


School Bus, Inc., to provide access for bus driver training across the state. School administrators verify their compliance by signing off on the assurance statement that validates yearly accreditation. Te training was offered from July 20 through August 18 and some of the topics covered were: managing emergencies, inspecting your bus, defensive driving skills and how to avoid blind spots.


National Association for Pupil Transportation members


approved an amendment to the by-laws that creates a 10th seat on the NAPT Board specifically for an affiliate member of the association. Te position will be filled via election this November among NAPT affiliate members, each of which will have two


votes. Te affiliate member directorship is a two-year term, and an individual may serve a maximum of three terms of office, which may be served consecutively. NAPT also made available at www.napt.org its Professional Development Series registration form for classes in Louisville, Ky. Seating is limited. Registration is still open for NAPT’s 35th Annual Conference and Trade Show, also in Louisville from Oct. 31 through Nov. 5, 2009.


Te Minnesota School Bus Operator’s Association gave its


2009 Lifetime Achievement Award to Don Hoffman and its Jim DeVeau Award to Larry Bakken. Hoffman has been in the school bus industry since 1957. He has owned his own businesses and been active in both MSBOA and NSTA. Te DeVeau Award is giv- en to a member of MSBOA who is considered to have changed the face of the school bus industry in Minnesota. Bakken was chosen for his involvement in seeing legislation go through that guaranteed school bus operators receive fair treatment and his help to develop a worker’s compensation program. n
