A state- ment said the board at National Express Group, the Birmingham, England-based parent company that owns National Ex- press Corp., was uninterested in entering into discussions with First. “National Express Group, as well as Na-
tional Express Corporation, remains 100 percent committed to serving our valued customers by strengthening the company and continuing the initiatives that are cur- rently underway,” the statement read. Despite the news that National Ex-
press rejected the offer, First said there remained “significant industrial and com- mercial logic in a combination of the two companies.” Shortly thereafter, National Express majority stakeholder, the Cos- men family of Spain, expressed interest in taking over the entire company, and then competitor Stagecoach did the same.
