The dark of the sky, the light of the moon. the beginning of the lyrics of “The Voyager” by Gamma. Michael Schleu is also a voyager. Referencing cinema and current cultural context, he intends to depict art-making as an activity which shows the great potential of human existence, a potential barely used to its full capacity. In his series struggle for harmony between the analytical will, the rational mind and the surreal receptivity.
Michael Schleu, born in 1961 in Sweden, is a visual and installation artist. Nature, nostalgia and pop- culture are strong themes in his work.

The artist, who studied at the Royal Art Academy Stockholm, is most recognized for his artworks which are represented in Sweden in permanent collections in Moderna Museet, Stockholm and Uppsala Museum of Art. Reviewing his artistic concept, the Sweden based artist explains the meaning behind parts of a constructed reality, which create a special suppressed feeling. In the creation of the paintings, the epic landscapes form a mystic resonance ground, onto which I expose our unexplored inner lives. The paintings are not illustrations but constructions of a parallel reality.”
