PEOPLE Congratulations! Three cheers for some of the UK’s best agents! 25 YEARS IN AGENCY FOR JAMES WYATT
“You get half that for ‘life’ at Her Majesty’s pleasure!” says James Wyatt as he celebrates his silver anniversary, but what’s his story? Larger than life, James is 46. His fi rst school was Grove Prep School in Bagshot, liking it so much he has subsequently sent his sons there. Later, with his brother Rupert, he attended Charterhouse School in Godalming, Surrey and, to keep him out of mischief, was a regular ‘assistant’ in the family business, Barton Wyatt – earning his stripes answering the phone, photocopying and making the tea, helping with events, handing out canapés and drinks whilst perfecting the art of socialising. Having fi nished school, he
joined the fi rm full time, when estate agency was very
different. No one was called by their fi rst names, there were no computers, black and white handwritten property listings and smoking were the norm and the offi ce forcibly closed each day for lunch. On the
advice of his father, James joined Mann & Co estate agents in Weybridge where he gained hands on experience, followed by a stint in the ‘big smoke’ at Chesterton’s in London. A country man at heart, James grew tired of city life and headed back to Surrey and the beloved family business, working with his father until 2008 when Barton Wyatt was offi cially handed over to him and his brother, Rupert, the third generation of the agency.
James in an active member of
industry associations including NAEA, ARLA, FIABCI, American NAR, AIPP and is Head of the
