It is not without a little sadness in our hearts that we bid a fond but not final arrivederci to Italy and the spectacular Lago di Bolsena.
The truly magnificent venue and
its incredible carp have provided us with some excellent sport and memorable events. The warmth from the welcoming Italian people and Townsfolk who were our hosts has been amazing. Their enthusiastic support went along way to ensuring that, in every aspect, the event has been catered for superbly. We have created and enjoyed some
very special moments here at Bolsena, and these will live long in the memory. With new records set and many new friendships being forged along the way, we are certain that many of us will leave a little piece of our hearts on the shores of the lake. However, as we have in the past, so we shall continue to do… create more great memories that will last a lifetime. With the greatest of pleasure, we
can all look forward to a rendezvous in France at Lac de Madine for the World Carp Classic 2015. The magical Madine, very much seen as the spiritual home of the event, has enjoyed a very special relationship with the World Carp Classic and its competitors. First and foremost, I think we all agree that Madine is a superb venue, however there have been a few concerns expressed in the events latter years on the complex that perhaps needed addressing in a completely new way. Always innovative, we have carefully

considered all aspects of the event and taken on board all constructive comments. So, alongside the multi- million pound refurbishment scheme
of the Madine complex, which has now been completed, the time is right to once again dip our toes into the fabulous Madine water. There is no doubt, and results prove
it, that the carp had to an extent become more elusive in some areas whilst in others - with less angling pressure - they were more abundant. In other words, the venue had started to become a little ‘peggy’. That is evident by the area that the past few winning weights were caught from… although that should in no way diminish the fine achievements of any of our past champions!
The three-year break that the Madine carp have had from being angled for in a competition of this size and scale will have helped matters. They should be far less cautious and
perhaps time has erased much of their memory, but we feel that there is more that can be done to ensure a better, more level playing field and outcome. Apart from our consciously
sympathetic pegging, a new format will be introduced this year that will also attempt to address any disparity. For each pair, only the top four heaviest carp will count towards the pair’s recordable weight. That is to say, each and every fish will still be recorded, but only the best 4 will be submitted for the final catch total. We will also try to position pegs
in order to concentrate more angling pressure on the one particular area where historically, the biggest catches in relation to number have been caught. It is hoped that the added pressure will keep the carp on the move, which could in turn improve results elsewhere. Of course, this new format will not in any way affect competitors’ pleasure in

catching as many of Madine’s wonderful carp as possible so, in real terms, this format changes nothing. However, come the final catch sheet submission, when only the top four fish of each pair will count, that is the moment of truth. It should also be remembered
that, even with just a few short hours remaining in the competition - and even if you haven’t yet caught a carp at this late juncture - it is still wholly possible to catch four big carp right at the end to snatch the honours! It is hoped that you will appreciate
this format and the need to introduce it for the benefit of all competitors. We very much look forward to meeting and welcoming you to our spiritual home, Lac de Madine for the 2015 World Carp Classic.
