EVENT ROUND-UP A FEW POINTS OF INTEREST

nWeighing The minimum weight of the fish that may be recorded for the competition has been raised this year to 5kg as there are many small carp in the lake and not all of these are of the strain cyprinus carpio so this new minimum weight will eliminate the problem of another species being mistakenly recorded.

nRods Competitors may only have four baited rods in the water at any one time and two reserve rods, but these must be broken down. Each rig used by the competitor must only have one hook and all hooks must be micro barbed or barbed, which is generally the case these days with hooks from the major brands like Korda, Fox and Nash etc.

nRespecting Bolsena If you have been to Lake Bolsena before you will know how well kept and clean the lake is, and we want to keep it that way. It is disgusting the way some competitors think they can leave their swim after the competition and if I had my way every single one of them would be banned for life. There is no excuse for this – remove your rubbish and put it in the rubbish bins or the designated rubbish areas which will be signposted. If you’re still not sure, ask your marshal.

n Play Nice It is a friendly event and rarely do we get any nastiness, I want to see competitors getting on with competitors. There will be rivalries and battles but let’s have those in a fair and open way. Also, I want each and every competitor to treat the marshals with respect and I will come down hard on anyone who doesn’t.

nHave Fun Lastly, and not really a point on the rules but to wish everyone fishing in the event good luck, have fun and fish well. It is a great event which has formed many friendships over the years from carp anglers all over the world who come to fish, and long may it continue. See you at Bolsena 2013.

We have included a few things here that will hopefully be helpful to you. Should you have any enquiries other than emergencies, please refer to your copy of the official rules in the first instance before contacting HQ.

n Flag Parade

Please remember to bring your national flags along with you for the flag parade, which will take place just prior to the opening ceremony. Be proud that you are representing your country in an international event! Upon registration at Bivvy City, you will be provided with a wristband to aid event officials to instantly identify you as a competitor. It is important to wear the identification bracelet at all times. You may be denied access to important proceedings unless you are easily identifiable, such as the opening ceremony and draw, or even prize giving!

n Parking in and around Bolsena

To avoid causing congestion when visiting Bolsena Town Square, please be advised that there is extremely limited parking space for vehicles in and around the square - you are therefore advised to use the large ‘pay and display’ car park on the main road, adjacent to the town square. Around: The World Carp Classic organisers have endeavoured to ensure parking as near as possible to the pegs. Competitors must respect all official temporary parking signs and park only where assigned. Please adhere to all permanent roadside signs and residential signs at all times.

n Boat & Inventory Check List

To ensure that your boat and safety equipment conforms to the organisers and local authorities requirements, competitors must arrange to present their boat and equipment to be checked at the designated time prior to the start of the event. After everything has been checked and approved, competitors will receive a permit tag for each boat checked. When presenting your boat and equipment to undergo the official boat check, please ensure that you have the following available: Boat (if it is an inflatable it must consist

of 2 or more air chambers), oars and rowlocks or paddle (even if you have an electric outboard), anchor or mud weight with no less than 25 metres of rope, bailing equipment, 2 lifejackets complete with whistle and emergency light source, horn and 360° light source (lamp)

n Emergency procedure

In any situation where emergency services are required (See boat rule K01) Anyone who experiences problems of a concerning or emergency nature, either on board or overboard in the water, should immediately use their whistle to alert people on-shore. (See boat rule K02) Anyone on-shore must immediately advise in this order: HQ if marshal not already on-site (dedicated distress phone number provided), Neighbouring swims and relevant Local authorities (emergency phone number provided) For all other, non boat related emergencies, please phone the HQ and inform them of the nature of the emergency and who is involved, the exact location, i.e. your peg number, and provide your name and contact number.

nKeep Your Distance!

Contestants are reminded that there is a 250 metre maximum limit from shore to place lines this year. The distance will be clearly defined by large marker buoys set all around the fishing zones just beyond this distance so that they do not interfere with your fishing. Any participant who sets out with the intention of breaking this rule will be given an automatic yellow card and a red card for any subsequent offence. Blatant offences following ‘friendly warnings’ may result in a straight red card, please be aware!

*Please read, digest and adhere to all event rules, ignorance of the rules is not an acceptable excuse for breaking them. 39
