Gardner Leader expands into Maidenhead with Heath Buckeridge merger

Two well established Berkshire law firms, Gardner Leader in Newbury & Thatcham, and Heath Buckeridge in Maidenhead, join forces this month as part of a long-term growth plan.

The merger sees Gardner Leader expand into Maidenhead through the transfer of Heath Buckeridge’s team of 10 staff. The team will continue to work from the Maidenhead office, providing a range of services for businesses and individuals. The move will also help the Maidenhead team to build and develop its commercial legal services through the strength and support of Gardner Leader’s specialist business division.

The merger comes shortly after Gardner Leader’s acquisition of the probate, conveyancing and litigation teams of Newbury-based law firm Charles Hoile in November last year. Over the past 12 months Gardner Leader, which has been providing legal support to individuals and businesses for 120 years, has seen continuous growth with a number of solicitors joining the firm and a 19% increase in turnover.

Following this merger, Gardner Leader will have 13 partners and over 90 staff across Newbury, Thatcham and Maidenhead.

Richard Buckeridge, senior partner of Heath Buckeridge, who will become a partner in Gardner Leader, commented on the merger: “Heath Buckeridge has been successfully advising people and companies locally, nationally and internationally for nearly 30 years. Joining Gardner Leader will provide an excellent platform to enable us to develop the range of services we offer in Maidenhead, particularly in the commercial sector, which will bring big benefits to our clients and their businesses.”

Derek Rodgers, managing partner of Gardner Leader, added: “This is a move that will benefit both parties and their respective clients, particularly as clients of both firms now have access to a wider range of services and expertise.

“It is a fantastic time to be investing in Maidenhead as it presents great opportunities for growth and development alongside the advent of Crossrail and the town centre regeneration plans.”

UKTI helps space sector take off in SE

The South East is set to cement its position as a leader in the space industry after Harwell- based Satellite Applications Catapult signed an agreement with government export body UK Trade & Investment (UKTI) South East.

The two organisations plan to combine forces to contribute to the UK’s space strategy, helping local firms increase their share of the world’s space economy, leading to a UK sector worth 10% of the global market, with £40 billion a year of space-enabled turnover by 2030, and the creation of 100,000 new jobs.

The Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) sets out how the two organisations will increase their work together to identify space sector companies in need of help to develop overseas business, as well as to work together on events and trade missions.

Rory Pereira, deputy regional director for UKTI, said: “This agreement is a small step for the space industry but a huge step for the South East. It will help us to boost the vast potential for the UK’s space sector.“
