Crowcon relocates to purpose-built HQ at Milton Park

More than 200 people from Abingdon-based Crowcon Detection Instruments, the gas detection specialist, have successfully relocated into a brand new, purpose-built headquarters at MEPC’s Milton Park in Oxfordshire, which is part of the Government’s Science Vale Enterprise Zone.

Crowcon, part of Halma plc, had outgrown its current headquarters at Abingdon Business Park where it had been based for over 25 years.

Crowcon’s new Milton Park facility at 172 Brook Drive totals 40,000 sq ft, a 30% increase on their old facility, and accommodates all its existing functions plus additional customer training and product demonstration facilities; full service test and calibration laboratories and improved employee facilities.

The plans for the new state- of-the-art facilities were

submitted through the Milton Park Local Development Order which simplified the planning process and resulted in an earlier construction start, taking just six months to build from February 2014 to completion in July 2014.

Mike Ophield, Crowcon managing director, pictured front left, explained: “After more than two years’ planning, I am really delighted to see our brand new facility come to life. As an international company, we are fortunate that Milton Park is both a hub for science and innovation and an excellent location with great transport links.”

Andrew Barlow, commercial director at MEPC’s Milton Park, added: “Crowcon is another outstanding company to welcome to Milton Park. Not only is it a leading international business that is expanding at an incredibly fast rate, but it is a pioneer in the field

Romans Group makes its mark on the Crossrail route

Just two months after the acquisition of both Jacksons Residential in Henley-on-Thames and Caroline Clark & Associates in Sunninghill, the Romans Group has expanded further with the acquisition of Sherriff Mountford’s two estate and lettings branches in Burnham and Farnham Common, Buckinghamshire, marking the Group’s first foothold into the county.

Sherriff Mountford co-founder Paul Sherriff commented: “Romans’ knowledge and experience within the local property market stood out to me and the Group shares the key principles that we value the most – offering professional and expert advice on the local property market.”

He said that Sherriff Mountford will benefit from investment in information technology, training, intensive marketing and the numerous services also available to customers on top of sales and lettings, including: investment advice, conveyancing,

planning, surveying, auction sales and mortgage advice.

“We’re predicting a lot more activity, specifically in Burnham, over the coming years due to the addition of the Crossrail,” said Peter Fuller, managing director of Romans Lettings, “so it’s an exciting time for us to expand our local network and move into these new, desirable areas.”

Expanding its portfolio of estate and letting agencies has been high on the agenda for the Romans Group with seven successful acquisitions already under its belt since 2013 and a £12 million finance facility from its bankers available for more business purchases.

Fuller said that with extensive acquisition experience in the local area, capacity and financing facility, Romans is ready and able to consider any acquisition opportunity, and plans to accelerate its rate of growth.
