A new spotlight on tech entrepreneurs

To coincide with the opening of GROW@Green Park, a new pop up Innovation Hub in Reading, The Business Magazine looks at how the region is supporting the tech entrepreneurs and start-ups leading a new wave of innovation.

Supporting a new era of tech business


The dynamics of building a technology business today,


however, are very different to those of previous generations. The ability to scale a business at speed makes the pace of building a digital business incredibly fast. Bringing new technology thinking to traditional sectors requires new types of collaboration to be in place. And understanding how to exploit the changing nature of new technologies, such as cloud computing, big data, mobile and social media platforms, as well as ensuring legal, financial, operational and IP affairs are in place adds to the complexity. As a result, today’s tech entrepreneurs require a different kind of support network.


Launched this June, ConnectTVT (Connecting Thames Valley Tech) is a new regional initiative set up to address this and help a new generation of tech entrepreneurs prosper in the region.

“The Thames Valley provides a fertile environment for supporting and growing successful tech businesses,” said Louize Clarke, co-founder of ConnectTVT. “As the dynamics of the technology industry change we have an exciting opportunity to build on our strengths and also attract technologists and entrepreneurs from outside the region to locate here.”


One of the first goals of ConnectTVT is to make it easier for tech innovators to collaborate across what is one of the largest tech clusters in Europe. To do this, it is providing a central resource for sharing news and promoting events and co-working hubs. It has also established the region’s first pop-up hub to support tech start-ups and those developing new technology products.

provide tailored mentoring and workspace,” Clarke explained. “We’re inviting people to get in touch for a place on our autumn programme, which runs from September through November 2014. There are also lots of opportunities for the region’s technology and business communities to get involved.”
