Take your seats for the region’s premier business awards
The entries are in, the judges are currently conducting interviews with potential finalists, and preparations for the gala dinner are nearing completion
It’s just a over month until the Thames Valley Business Magazine Awards celebrate its 20th anniversary with a spectacular presentation ceremony at the Royal Berkshire Conference Centre in Reading on November 20.
That’s the night when the great and the good of the region’s business community will be finding out who has their name on the trophies and who will be going home empty- handed.
Nick Hewer of The Apprentice fame and now Countdown, will be sharing wit and wisdom and giving the audience a behind the scenes glimpse of working with Lord Sugar; while Fiona Bruce adds a more than touch of glamour as the evening’s presenter.
This year’s event promises to be bigger and better than ever before and as well as the actual awards, it’s also the perfect opportunity for networking with peers and acquaintances.
With around 350 of the region’s top businessmen and women all coming together to celebrate success, competition for tables – let alone titles – is tough, and for those who have yet to book their place, the clock is counting down.
Awards chairman David Murray said: “This is a night not to be missed and we are thrilled to be celebrating two decades of business awards.
“This is the biggest and best awards night in the Thames Valley and it’s thanks to all our loyal and wonderful supporters over the years that our event continues to go from strength to strength.
“This year especially, there has been a real buzz in the air and a sense of anticipation which is shared by all of us and our readers. These awards provide the perfect opportunity to celebrate home-grown success stories of those who do so much to promote the Thames Valley as a
great place to do business and to share anecdotes, and make new friends and potential business alliances. To anyone who has yet to book their seat, I would say don’t delay, because places are filling fast.”
By mid-September, as October’s issue of The Business Magazine went to press, the number of entries was already well up on previous years, and a busy last week was expected as many entrants traditionally wait until the last minute to return their entry forms.
One of the most popular categories this year has been Best Use of Technology and Sean Taylor, managing director of Redwood Technologies, which sponsors the title, has been helping to raise its profile – and that of the awards overall – by undertaking some radio interviews.
He spoke to both the Drivetime programme on BBC Radio Berkshire and The Breeze, local radio for Basingstoke and Newbury, to promote the awards among listeners.
Elsewhere, there’s been coverage online, in social media and in local press, encouraging as many entries as possible.
Entries for the Green Business Award have been demonstrating just some of the innovative ways in which companies are doing their bit to help the environment and reduce carbon emissions; while many other nominations have focused on business excellence and achievements as the economy continues to recover.
Winners in past years have included such well-known names as Symantec, Westcoast, Ella’s Kitchen, GE Healthcare and Pulsant.
As the big night approaches for 2014, prepare for some “old” names and some new ones to make their mark on the region’s premier awards event – it promises to be a true celebration.
