Heathrow: Speak up now urges MP
The Davies Commission may have grounded ‘Boris Island’ but the decision on the development of our future UK hub airport is still ‘up in the air’.
Three choices now remain: adding a third runway at Heathrow, lengthening an existing runway at Heathrow, and building a new runway at Gatwick.
And that’s why Reading West MP Alok Sharma urged TVPF delegates to make their support clearly and widely known for Heathrow expansion.
“Whenever I speak to businesses in the Thames Valley, you will always tell me in private that it is a no-brainer. But, I don’t think you guys have spoken up enough publicly, and if you don’t it is an opportunity missed, and you may get a result that you don’t like.”
The commission’s final report is expected next summer, after the general election.
MIPIM UK showcase opportunity for Thames Valley
Thames Valley Berkshire will be showcased at the inaugural MIPIM UK set to opened by Boris Johnson at London’s Olympia Halls this month (October 15-17).
MIPIM is the world’s premier property conference and exhibition organisation and its London show gives the Thames Valley a golden stage on which to promote itself to investors, developers, occupiers, consultants and suppliers operating across the UK property sector and beyond.
Exhibition Stand C02/03 will be the focal point reflecting the Thames Valley’s qualities and business opportunities. Voicing those attributes on the
stand will be a team representing four partners (Thames Valley Berkshire Local Enterprise Partnership, Reading UK CIC, Slough Borough Council and The Royal Borough of Windsor and Maidenhead) and four supporters (Development Securities, Barton Willmore, Haslams and UK Property Forums), with The Business Magazine acting as a media partner.
The stand will focus on investors looking for an alternative to over-heated London markets, plus occupiers and developers seeking more information about why the Thames Valley it is one of the top places in Europe to run a thriving business and still enjoy a high quality of life.
In addition, Thames Valley Berkshire will be chairing two Keynote Sessions at MIPIM UK, staging other awareness activities, and has been entered for the MIPIM Awards.
Details of the Thames Valley’s regional attributes will be produced in handout form for distribution at MIPIM UK and put online via a new page on
www.ukpropertyforums.com
MIPIM UK has made an impressive debut with more than 1,750 delegates signed up to attend, 95% of the exhibition space sold, and 25 cities represented from across the UK, including Manchester, Liverpool, Coventry, Newcastle and the Scottish Cities Alliance.
