Young winners in the making

Entry to the Thames Valley Haines Watts Young Entrepreneur Competition 2014 is now closed and candidates are being interviewed to try and secure a place in the finals

The chosen finalists will each receive prizes, including cash for their business and free advice on all aspects of running a successful enterprise. This includes mentoring sessions from partners at Haines Watts for a year. They also receive associated publicity.

Increasing numbers of young people have been setting up their own businesses with the aim of making a difference with their innovative ideas. Many have grown to a point where they are contributing significantly to the recovering economy by offering employment to others and

by trading both in the UK and globally.

John Bailey, chairman of the judges at Haines Watts, said: “This year we have had entries from some very successful, established companies, as well as promising newcomers and the wide range of market sectors is also great to see. We're looking for those with a sound business concept and sustainable plan for the future, as well as qualities such as creativity and business potential.”

THE BUSINESS MAGAZINE – THAMES VALLEY – OCTOBER 2014

The past few months I have been doing some work for a sales psychologist, Bryan McCrae, whose research puts sales success down to two key factors, resilience and intrinsic motivation. You get knocked down, you get back up, you go down, you get up, down, up... and you have to love what you do... you have these in your heart and you’ll win the day. Find out more at SalesMotivation.co.uk.

Not all business ideas are going to work... most will fail... but you have to keep trying and keep the belief in yourself that the next one will be the one… there is no substitute for the school of hard knocks, its character building.

Come and join me in my various online networks... share your business and community stories... help build everyone’s resilience and understanding of what motivates each of us, so we can keep adding value to our own worlds.
