NEWS FROM THE PE DEPARTMENT
SPORT
It has been a wonderful term for the PE Department
Our athletes kicked off a fantastic summer with emphatic victories for both the junior and intermediate teams at the East Sussex round of the Track and Field Cup, which meant they both qualified for the South East regional round. The girls also took part in several inter-school friendly competitions, with notable junior performances from Alicia Le Pere and Bindi Vereker in the 800m and Carmel Amamgbo in the 200m. The Year 9 and 10 athletes have produced some outstanding results this season with school records being equalled or broken by Funmi Ademuwagun
(Shot Putt), Emma Jenkins (300m), Adelaide O’Conor (Long Jump) and Rebecca Snow (Triple Jump).
Funmi also broke her own record on Parents’ Day much to the delight of the spectators! All of the athletes put on a spectacular performance on Parents’ Day, showcasing their talents and doing themselves and the PE Department very proud.
The whole team must be congratulated on their performance in the regional round of the Track and Field Cup with a score that places the team 21st in the country for their age group (out of 168 schools) – a remarkable achievement. The season was completed with the girls winning and retaining the Ouse Valley Athletics Cup which took place on a hot sunny day in Lewes only a day after the regional competition, but tired legs did not stop those girls giving 100% effort.
The tennis players had equal success in the Aegon League. The U13 team of Sofia Reynoso, Valentina Garcia, Freya Cournane, Mercedes Mora- Figueroa Garcia-
Badell and Anna Billing won all of their matches convincingly and beat Bede's in the final despite them bringing a 6.1 ranked player with them. The U15 team of Tzarina Tuen- Matthews, Sarah Mercer, Alice O'Connell and Caitlyn Stone played Brighton College in their final which they won convincingly. Both teams will now go on to represent East Sussex in the next round of the competition in September.
