THE VINE Welcome to issue #11, the first issue of our third year of publi-

cation! That’s right! We survived our “terrible twos,” and now we’re going straight to the heart of Texas, the same massive land mass from whence came our original cover boy back in 2012. We are happier than pigs in slop to present our totally exclusive, unbi- ased, and lofty interview with the original Texas Jewboy, Kinky Friedman! But that’s just the beginning! This issue also features interviews with legendary bass guitarist Leland Sklar; Robin Duner Fenter talking about his dad, the co-founder of Capricorn Records and 2014 inductee into the Georgia Music Hall of Fame, Frank Fenter; Macon, Georgia indie video man, Dave Peck talks about his new TV show, Maconga City Limits; Scott B. Bomar, au- thor of a great new Southern Rock book called Southbound; Of course there are also plenty of CD reviews, DVD reviews, book re- views, and concert reviews. We hope you enjoy the issue, and also hope that you will pass the link on to all of your friends! Thanks for reading, and please feel free to send us your

thoughts, emails and tweets. Keep it Real. Keep it Southern. Michael Buffalo Smith

PS: It’s been a rough time for losing great and talented artists lately. This issue, we feature a special memorial this issue to one of my all time favorites, Johnny Winter. I’d also like to acknowl- edge the sad passing of the greatest announcer ever, Don Pardo; the girl who stole Bogie’s heart, Lauren Bacall; and the death that shocked the world, and left many of us just plain numb, Robin Williams. He was quite possible the funniest man ever in my opinion. If someone you know shows signs of depression, please don’t let it go untreated. Talk to them, do whatever it takes to get them the help they deserve. It’s a relentless disease, but treatable. And finally, we are flying the Southern Rock flags at half-mast

in memory of Brian Farmer, long time guitar tech for Warren Haynes of Gov’t Mule and The Allman Brothers Band. Farmer, who looked so much like Warren that he often sent audiences into a frenzy by walking out onstage, was a close friend of Haynes, and the two even shared the same birthday. Brian died on August 24th, which, ironically, was the 14th anniversary of the death of Mule bassist Allen Woody. KUDZOO sends our deepest sympa- thies to Brian’s family and the extended family of Warren Haynes, The Brothers and the Mule. There was only one Brian. He will be missed.
