Blood, Boils and Black Death, Leeds Castle Discover a distinctly unpleasant side to “the loveliest castle in the world” when you join the castle’s guides for an All Hallows’ Eve tour, with grisly tales of the Black Death and ruthless 16th Century ‘sawbones’ surgery. Tours must be booked online. Places are limited and some stories may be unsuitable for younger children.


October 31-November 1 Family Halloween Twilight Trail and Supper, Chartwell A children’s Halloween tale, before embarking on a trail through the gardens, after an early light supper. Wear sensible footwear and Halloween fancy dress. Suitable for children four years and over. Booking essential.


NOVEMBER November 2 Bonfire and Firework Spectacular,


Kent Life, Maidstone Be amazed by fire-breathers’ lighting the bonfire and join in the countdown to the musical firework display. The event will include children’s fairground rides, music and amazing fire performers. Starts at 4pm.


November 2 Autumn Wildlife Watch, Mote Park, Maidstone A seasonal guided wildlife walk around Mote Park. 9.30am- noon. Free event, but book in advance at moteparkevents@maidstone.gov.uk


November 10 Journey of Remembrance, The Kent and East Sussex Railway A special service of remembrance at Tenterden station will take place at 12.45pm, followed by the Last Post and a two-minute silence and the laying of a wreath. After the service, a Terrier locomotive will make a special journey comprising the Cavell Van, Birdcage and other historic vintage stock. The journey will mark the historic journeys made by the Cavell Van when it carried the coffin of Nurse Edith Cavell and Captain Charles Fryatt in 1919 and the unknown warrior in 1920. November 14 Garden Design Workshop, Emmetts Garden, Sevenoaks Be inspired by the beauty and history of Emmetts Gardens and learn the basics of garden design, including styling a garden, plant design and hard landscaping. Materials supplied, as well as soup or sandwich and tea or coffee. £30 per person.
