Membership Committee
he success of DATIA is a direct reflection of its membership and growth as an association. So it was
great to see a record number of attendees at the annual conference in Phoenix. With a total membership of 1480, confer- ence attendees totaled more than 700 including 112 non-member attendees. As a member-driven association, DA-
TIA is always seeking to grow its mem- bership and is searching for volunteers to join its Membership Committee. The Membership Committee is responsible for identifying sources of prospective DATIA members and identifying related industries to promote DATIA member- ship and programs. Te Membership Commitee is also vi-
tal in helping to shape DATIA’s marketing messages to these potential members. Last year, the commitee efforts included au- thoring articles, atending industry events and speaking/presenting at these events, which directly correlated to this year’s record number of conference atendees; this is in addition to the 10,000+ targeted member solicitations. Te member- ship commitee has also been extremely involved in the oil and gas initiative that DATIA has been developing. Te commit- tee believes there is a substantial potential to atract members from both the United States and internationally. While in Phoenix for the annual con-
ference, the DATIA Board of Directors met and the Membership Committee gathered to set some ambitious goals to exceed last year’s membership growth. This committee is striving to reach a total membership of 1600, an 8 percent increase from current membership totals. DATIA plans to exhibit at industry-relat-
ed conferences to promote the associa- tion and its many benefits. DATIA members represent the entire
spectrum of drug and alcohol service providers including collection sites, laboratories, consortiums/TPAs, MROs, and testing equipment manufacturers. A comprehensive list of benefits can be found at
http://www.datia.org/member- ship/
member-benefits.html. One of DATIA’s current initiatives
involves the trends with medical and recreational marijuana. DATIA is advo- cating for employers and employer rights to the benefits of a drug free workplace and keeping workplaces safe and secure. More and more employers are joining DATIA. Our membership committee will continue to encourage private and public employers to join DATIA to help with the advocacy on drug free workplace in regards to the rapid movements towards legalization of marijuana. If you are interested in joining our
Membership Committee or any of the other six committees, please contact Laura Shelton at
lshelton@datia.org. ❚
