LETTER FROM THE CHAIRMAN
BY PHIL DUBOIS, DRUGSCAN, INC.
Great Conference T
he DATIA Annual Conference in Phoenix, AZ showed the greatness and value that DATIA brings to the
drug and alcohol testing industry. DATIA set new records with over 700 atendees, 112 of whom were new non-members. My return home was welcomed with
many phone calls, emails and mes- sages with the same theme—what a great conference. I couldn’t agree more; this is no accident. Planning for this conference started in 2012 and I want to thank all who were involved. Laura Shelton, Executive Director of DATIA, and her team did an outstanding job executing the minor and major details to make sure the conference was near perfect. Diana Bauske and Sherri Vogler of the Education commitee led an incredible group of dedicated individuals who planned a great venue and conference theme. A thanks also goes to the DATIA Board of Directors for all their efforts to make this a truly great experience. Deep appreciation goes to the sponsors and exhibitors that made this conference finan- cially possible. Also, a huge thanks goes to Neil Fortner, our new Past Chairman. Neil’s leadership has taken us to a new level at DATIA and we are so happy that he will remain on the Board another two years to provide his sage advice. Lastly, I want to personally thank Patrice Kelly, Acting Director of Office of Drug and Alcohol Policy and Compliance, all of the DOT Program Managers, and their designates for personally educating the members of DA- TIA as well as making themselves available at the conference to answer questions and provide guidance. I’d like to welcome our newest Board
Member, Lynn Carr of FirstLab, and welcome back to two former Board Members who are bringing their en- ergy and leadership back to the DATIA Board: Joe Reilly, our former Chairman,

from Joe Reilly & Associates, Inc. and Diana Bauske, our former Secretary, from Chem Check Co., Inc. I’d also like to congratulate our new Executive Board Members. Andy Powell of Nursing Corps is thankfully returning as Treasurer, Scott Taillie of Alere Toxicology will be our Secretary and Sherri Vogler of Houston Medical Testing Services is our new Chairman-Elect. An organization, though, is only as
strong as its membership. Do you want to help make DATIA an even better organi- zation? We have seven great committees that shape the current and future initia- tives and benefits that DATIA delivers to its members. These committees are Communication, International, Educa- tion, Legislative, Marijuana, Member- ship, and Technology. If you didn’t have the chance to join a committee during the conference, you can join one of these committees today. You can join by calling DATIA at 800-355-1257 or by emailing
info@datia.org. In this issue of DATIA focus, there is a
great deal of information to help empower yourself and your organization in the fight to keep workplaces productive, safe and drug free. If you have ideas of articles that will empower our industry or if you per- sonally want to write an article for DATIA focus, please email us at
info@datia.org or contact a board member. By now you have realized the overutiliza-
tion of “great;” I couldn’t help it. Isn’t being a member of DATIA great? ❚
Truly yours,
Phil Dubois summer 2014
