A

s a member of DATIA, we grant you access to valuable re- sources via the Resources page on our website; the National Association of State Alcohol/Drug Abuse Directors (NA-

SADAD) is one of many national resource links we provide for you. NASADAD is a not-for-profit that fosters and supports the de-

velopment of effective alcohol and other drug abuse prevention and treatment programs throughout every state. Originally incorporated in 1971 to serve State Drug Agency Directors, the membership was expanded to include State Alcoholism Agency Directors in 1978.

NASADAD provides research on substance abuse issues. Recent-

ly, they released case studies on “Examining How State Substance Abuse Agencies Use Data to Manage Systems.” Te results came from 11 states and are aimed to help improve knowledge regarding current information systems and the types of measures and data that state substance abuse agencies are already using to guide sys- tems at the state and local levels. Tis can be found directly on the homepage of their website along with more case studies. NASADAD also issued a brief report on the “Overview of State

Legislation to Increase Access to Treatment of Opioid Overdose” which discusses state laws enacted to increase access to treatment for opioid overdose. NASADAD provides insight on its political efforts through its

publications and updates such as its “DC Updates,” issue briefs, state-specific legislation and health reform information under the “Public Policy” tab on its website. In addition to its public policy efforts, NASADAD remains active

in prevention and treatment efforts. NASADAD’s National Preven- tion Network (NPN) provides a national advocacy and commu- nication system for prevention. State prevention representatives work with state agency directors to ensure high quality and effective alcohol, tobacco, and other drug abuse prevention services in each state. NPN uses its leadership role to promote high-quality preven- tion services through its national efforts. With regard to treatment, NASADAD has organized various

networks including the Women’s Services Network (WSN), an or- ganization of state Alcohol and Other Drug (AOD) Agency Treat- ment Representatives dedicated to the development and promotion of evidence-based practice that addresses the unique alcohol and other drug prevention, treatment, and recovery service needs of women and their families throughout their lifespan. It’s a great re- source when looking for education on women and substance abuse. For more information on NASADAD and its recent studies and

reports, please visit htp://nasadad.org/ or go to datia.org and visit the “Resources” tab. ❚
