Walcon Wizard ready for piling work It has been announced by Walcon Marine Ltd that its popular, versatile, self-propelled floating piling rig – the Walcon Wizard – is now back in commission following its involvement in a towing accident at the start of the year. This caused serious damage, including the destruction of the wheelhouse and all the electronics on board. The crane was also damaged beyond use. As well as making all the necessary repairs, Walcon took the opportunity to undertake a series of upgrades, including rebuilding the wheelhouse and adding an autopilot, navigation aids and additional comforts for the crew. Together, these extend the range of the Wizard when under its own power, putting almost all of the South Coast of England within its reach. It can also be towed for destinations further afield and has undertaken assignments as far from its Southampton base as

Scotland. It was while it was under tow after dark in January with all the correct lighting for the situation that a merchant vessel tried to cut between the Wizard and the vessel towing it. The Wizard fortunately stayed afloat, but the crane was destroyed and other damage inflicted by the towing cable. Happily, that has all been rectified and the piling barge is now ready for piling work, harbour maintenance and other assignments where access is most convenient by water.
