When Your Horse Has A Fecal
Impaction, Can You Say Whoa?
What do you do when you can see your horse is
troubled? He didn’t eat his breakfast. Is he looking rest- less and pawing at the ground? Is he stretching oddly or kicking and biting as if pointing towards his abdomen? Even his tummy isn’t making happy sounds and he hasn’t pooped in his stall all night? That could mean trouble, perhaps a digestive tract impaction from gas or sand. A common treatment for fecal impaction is NSAID drugs which relieve pain and relax muscles. Although, as horse owners, we want to stop the pain, the real urgency is the cause of the pain. It is fecal impaction and abdominal gas. In the case of impaction, using a drug to relax the smooth muscles is counter pro- ductive because it leaves the muscles unable to assist with elimination. This means that the bowel muscle is unable to activate even though the body needs it to move waste product through the system to succeed. SayWhoa! works in a completely different way. It
does not provide pain relief or contain muscle relaxant properties and it is not a drug. When a horse who is in digestive distress is given SAYWHOA!, the unique drug free formula is quickly absorbed through the stomach lining. Simple looking ingredients work with the horse’s body using osmosis to draw fluid into the intestinal tract. This softens the impacted fecal matter and breaks it apart which makes it much easier to eliminate. The ionic solu- tion stimulates the bowel muscle which becomes active within minutes, moving material towards being expelled. The happy gut sounds come back and the impaction is alleviated. Peristalsis (normal function of the bowel) returns and the horse begins to eat within an hour or two, and in some cases within minutes. Crisis has been avert- ed and peace has been restored without pain medication or other drugs. All that plus saving the substantial costs asso- ciated with a bout of impaction. Now, that sounds like a win - win for you and the horse.
