control Fear At Different Speeds At Left And

how some horses cannot control their emotions when working in different speeds, and how they fall apart emotionally. I will also talk about how some people cannot control their emotions when they are starting young or old hors- es and also when they have difficulty when working through the steps with their horses. You may wonder if this can be fixed or not. We cannot reach our goals with our horses when we start to fall apart emotion- ally.

children to become better people and transfer this to the next generation? We can also look at the way we act in our own barn with our horses. Are we gentle, respectful and loyal to our horses or for that matter any other animal in the barn? How many times do we pet our horses with gen- tle hands when we are working on the ground or in the saddle to let them understand that they are pleasing us? I have already explained how important our hands are when work- ing with our horses and how we transfer our emo- tions through our hands to

control good or bad situa- tions in our lives, how do we respect each other, as well how do we teach or explain situations to our children when teaching them manners or how do we discipline them. How do we teach our

back and take a look at our- selves and try to under- stand what kind of person we are. Things to consider or realize about ourselves are things like how fast or slow we talk, how we move our bodies or our hands are they fast or slow. How do we handle or

how I understand how to control my own emotions when I work with my hors- es and how to explain and teach the horse how to con- trol their fear and their own emotions. In order for us to do this, first of all we need to try to understand the horse that we are work- ing with, what kind of ani- mal he is and how he is able to control stress. We also have to step

lovers, welcome back to Russ Krachun “Kozak” Horsemanship and my Dis- cover “20 Steps in the Round Pen” with my next step # 17 Control fear at different speeds at left and right directions. I will talk to you about

right Directions Hello again horse

the excitement of the first time that you have touched a horse or have sat on a horse for the first time, we have felt excitement or fear, but these were good feelings and good emo- tions. It is the same thing when two people meet each other for the first time and enjoy each other and feel good and happy with good excitement and good emo- tions. These are examples of good emotions, but these emotions can change quickly with our everyday lives and life with our hors- es.

would like to share with you, two riders at the barn decide to go riding and have a good time. They put their horses in the cross ties and start to groom their horses, and then start to tack them up. One rider is finished very fast and the other rider takes the time

this example, but don’t you be surprised, this situation has happened to adults as well. The parents end up taking care of the horse and eventually end up selling the horse because it demands too much respon- sibility from them because they have other responsi- bilities. Now, I ask you my friends and readers, how many hearts have been bro- ken, and how many emo- tions are involved in this situation, both good and bad feelings. Another example that I

experienced or know some- one who has purchased an animal for a child, it may be a cat, a dog, a horse or any other animal for that matter. What happens for the first few weeks is that these children will give these animal lots of love and attention because it is new and exciting. What happens next is that the animal becomes attached to this child with his heart and his soul, and after a few months the child may real- ize that it is not new any longer and becomes too much work. If this animal is a horse, the child must groom their horse, clean stalls, feed the horse, give water and give this horse lots of attention even in the cold, snow, heat, rain and very soon the child has lost interest in this horse. I have used a child for

our horse. Some people tap their horse thinking that they are rewarding the horse for good behaviour, as I have explained in the previous steps. You may also see people getting worked up the day or so before they have to load their horse in the trailer because they cannot control their stress and emotions because of an accident that has happened with a horse in the trailer in the past. You can also think of

example, I would like to talk about how some have worked in the round pen previously. We have been taught for many years in order to accomplish this work you must run the horse around and then after the horse will come to you and then join up and then you will have a happy, healthy and safe relation- ship between you and your horse. This is simply just not true and is not reality. You may have seen this demonstrated in videos or on television shows but you may have just seen pretty colors or may not have seen all of the situa- tions involved. Some

and grooms the horse very gently and thoroughly. Each time the horse is brushed; one hand is gently petting or rubbing the horse, transferring through his hands his heart, soul and good emotions to his horse. This person has checked the hooves, legs, and has checked the tack making sure that it is com- fortable for the horse and safe for him. The other rider is asking him what is taking you so long, and tells him to hurry up. There are a lot of different emotions in this situation. When these two riders start to ride and practice their riding steps, the one rider is calm consistent, deliberate and uses his brain and will think about what he will be doing and transfers good energy and good emotions to his horse and the horse is calm, learns and enjoys this rider. The other rider fin- ishes the riding steps very quickly without using the proper physical exercises and without thinking or using the brain and becomes frustrated with bad emotions. The horse becomes upset and nervous and will never learn under these circumstances, and will remember the rider’s emotions and may feel fearful. I would like to share

friends how would you feel in this situation? You may answer me by saying, I am feeling trapped and then you put me in the round pen, as we have done for many years and I am sure that the horse feels the same way. They may want to escape from all of this leather, steel, felt and rider because they feel fear and they cannot control their emotions. So let’s go back to our round pen and take all of the tack off of our horses and let him under- stand by teaching and explaining to him how to control his fear. It will be very hard for some horses to learn how to control their fear, the same as some people may have problems in controlling their own fear and some may never. We can only help them get better when they are in dif- ferent situations and I believe that it will work the same way for our horses or any animal. This step will be very hard for me to express and explain to you my friends on paper

I have already explained these situations in my pre- vious steps. So, when the round pen work has been finished, as we were previ- ously taught and then go on to bridle and then saddle the horse, the horse starts to buck or flip over, or kick us and runs away and we are put in dangerous sit- uations. For me it is again just bad emotions, fear and aggression. Put yourself in your horse’s situation and imagine that you are the horse, go to the barn, put on the saddle, splint boots, and then put the bridle and the bit in your mouth; then go to the round pen and let someone run you around and then let someone sit on your back for the first time. I can hear you tell me, Russ you are crazy! What are you trying to explain to me? I will answer you, have patience and control your emotions. I now will ask you, my

horses will never join up, or in some cases they may challenge you or may even try to attack you. Russ May StoryAgain,

ed to teach your horse how to control their fear and to control their emotions as well as started to build this safe relationship between you and your horse. I have named this step # 17 Con- trol Fear at different speeds at the left and right direc- tions, because when we work with our horse all of the time in the same speed, the horse will perform good and be relaxed, but when we start to increase or change the speed, it is then that our horse falls apart and with some horses they just cannot control their emotions with a change of speed at all. You are able to use and

mix up any of my steps in my Discover “20 Steps in the Round Pen” with this

because it has a lot of emo- tion involved with it between the horse and the human. You, my friends will have to understand all of the previous steps and what you have accom- plished so far with your horse through my Discover “20 Steps in the Round Pen”. You have already start-

step # 17 Control Fear at different speeds in order to help you improve your horse’s emotions. For exam- ple, you can mix this step # 17 with step # 4 Ask your horse to turn inside or step # 5 Ask your horse to turn outside as well as step # 2 extended touch with the lariat. You will ask the horse to travel at the speed that you desire and then ask the horse to increase the speed and then immediately release the speed by releasing the pres- sure and then again increase the speed right away. You may notice that

your horse will become upset, it is not a secret but try to feel and read your horses body when working in this step. It is very important that you do not stay too long in this step, if you do this step will end up to be punishment to the horse, and this is not our goal or our intention. After working through this step for a week or so you will be surprised how fast your horse will understand and accept these fast and slow consistent transitions and will not become upset. It is very important when you have finished this step or session that you give your horse lots of love so that your horse will under- stand that you are working on controlling fear and emotions and that you are not punishing him. Once again as I have

told you, you can work on turn outside, turn inside and at the same time throw the lariat on your horse, change the speed from slow to fast and even very fast, and then right away change to very slow; and you my friends will be

amazed when you finish this step consistently, how quickly your horse will control his fear and his emotions. When he is ready for tack you can repeat this step with your horse tacked, so that when you ride your horse for the first time he will be relaxed, you will be able to walk, trot and lope with a flag in your hand without holding on tight to the reins and afraid that you will be bucked off. You and your horse will be happy and share good emotions between each other and not have fear to interfere with your relationship. Take your time, try to under- stand your horses, their heart, their soul, how they may feel no matter how dull or how sensitive he may be, and try to find a way to reach him and not make him upset and afraid of you. When you have finished and accomplished your goal in this step # 17 Control fear at different speeds you will be amazed in how much your horse will become safe and trust- ing for you.
