Students hold horse show
HADLOW College students have staged another popular horse show at the campus. All the organisation was carried
out as part of a practical exercise by the 32 Level 3 Extended Diploma students studying horse care and management. A spokesman for the event said:
“It was a hugely successful day, with more than 130 horses and rid- ers turning out to compete. “The smooth running of the
show was aided by the brilliant weather, which resulted in a really enjoyable day for everyone.” Aswell as formal showing, jump-
ing and dressage classes, the event included fun classes such as fancy dress and pairs jumping.
VIEWS are being sought on a plan to provide more support for chil- dren with learning difficulties at Holmesdale Technology College, Snodland. Kent County Council proposes to
build on the inclusive education of- fered at the school by creating a specialist resourced provision (SRP). This would provide places for 12 children with special needs or autism, to help integrate them into mainstream education. These pupils would be likely to experience difficulty communicat- ing and interacting with other peo- ple, but should be capable of
getting good GCSE grades. The first fourwould be admitted in Sep- tember with the remaining eight places being filled over the next two years. The SRP would include a sepa-
rate area where the children could receive individual and group teach- ing. Where suitable, they will be in- cluded in mainstream classes. Each place would mean at least £10,000 a year extra funding to en- able the school to provide the addi- tional support needed. This could result in more staff being recruited, most likely one specialist teacher and possibly a teaching assistant.
New KCC chairman
CLLR Peter Homewood is the new chairman of Kent County Council. The member for Malling Rural North East was installed in his new role by his predecessor Eric Hotson at the council’s annual meeting. Mr Homewood, who lives in Old Chatham
Road, Aylesford, has Mike Harrison, who repre- sents Whitstable, as his vice-chairman.
