In addition to crop restrictions, farming on airport land requires strict adherence to several rules:


Federal regulations: While operating on federal lands, farmers are bound by regulations that would not otherwise be applicable to farming a parcel of land where provincial and municipal regulations are in effect.


Security requirements: Just like any airport employee would, farmers and their staff must obtain an appropriate level of security clearance to work at an airport.


Vehicle permits and insurance: Since the farmer is operating vehicles within the restricted area, they are also required to obtain an airside vehicle operator’s permit. To carry out business and operate vehicles within the airport boundary, they are also required to have appropriate insurance in place to do so.
