“Stream yourself a nice lullaby, making things almost as comfort- able as being back home.”
One of the best ways, for multiple reasons, is a travel router. With the ever in-
creasing threats to network security, this would have to be by far one of the best investments (C$40) any frequent traveller could acquire. Chromecast works over a local WiFi setup, requiring the Chromecast and any connecting device to be on the same wireless network. Tis would require you to have a little more control over things than a hotel wireless will give you access to. Once you have the router configured and everything powered on, you are good to go. Any device is only as good as its services. So, let’s start off with Netflix. You have
your account, your pocket router and your Chromecast. Plug in the Chromecast to an open HDMI port on the TV. Fire up the Netflix app on your device, pick a movie, and hit the cast button. Te TV should come alive with your selection streaming in glorious 1080p, allowing you to binge watch your hotel stay away for the next few days. Have an impressive home media library backed up to your hard drive so when
little fingers get jam all over your Blu-rays it doesn’t affect quality? One of the many media server apps can help you out with that. Plex (which I am currently using) has a nice little cross platform app that brings that collection to you wherever you are, and again works superbly on Google’s Chromecast. So your eyes are finally starting to water, and the yawns are incessantly over- whelming. What better way to drift off to the land of chocolate on your pillow dreams than with some nice relaxing music? From your home library, or the many services out there that are free (RDIO, Pandora) you can stream yourself a nice lullaby, making things almost as comfortable as being back at home. Well, almost.
