Ultimate Guide to Universities and Careers
If you love the Saturdays, you will love their big news; the girls are set to release a Greatest Hits album later on this year as well as embarking on a nationwide tour that will see them perform at the famous Wembley Arena. I managed to get a quick phone call with Frankie and Una and spoke to them about their new album and the tour, amongst other things..
Greenwich University lets you study vampires in the first year:

THE SATURDAYS EXCLUSIVE INTERVIEW
“We can’t wait to get out on the road and showcase our journey so far! This is not the end, just a milestone along the way.”
- Frankie By Victoria Taylor
Q. What’s your favourite city to perform in?
Una: For me it would have to be Dublin as it’s such a personal experience for me, with it being my hometown
Frankie: I love performing in the northern cities; the people are just so much fun! Plus the shopping there is great too.
Q. What can fans expect from your tour?
THINKING OUTSIDE THE BOX WITH A MORE UNUSUAL CHOICE OF DEGREE
Frankie: It’ll be a big night out, where people can dress up, have fun and sing along to their favourite songs Una: It’ll be a like a big karaoke night where
Overall, we go to university with one goal in mind (aside from partying and making a great bunch of friends), and that’s to learn. We’re all looking for a degree that will let us get a job later, but degrees in Business, English Literature or I.T aren’t for everyone. Neither are the more creative courses like Art, Creative Writing or Film Studies. But, as these courses prove, there’s
definitely a degree out there for everyone, even if you want to study something that’s just a little bit weird and wonderful…
The University of Derby offers a module in Parapsychology as part of its second year psychology course:
Instead of studying the human mind and how it
works, how about livening up your second year of psychology with the “Anomalistic Psychology and Parapsychology,” module? It looks into extrasensory perception, psychokinesis and experiences of
apparitions, which definitely sounds more interesting than reading over countless criminal case studies over and over again.
everyone’s involved because we’ll be performing a lot of our past hits, and three new
songs!
Q. Out of all the men you mention in your song ‘Gentlemen’, which one would you most like to go on a date with?
Una and Frankie: (after pondering for a while)
George Clooney!
For those who tend to prefer their spooks to be fictional, the University of Greenwich offers the chance for third year students to take a course in “The Literature of the Gothic,” where you’ll get to study classics such as Dracula, Sweeney Todd, and The Shining. Perfect for any horror lovers, this course is one that will definitely send chills down anyone’s spine…
Bakery courses at London South Bank University:
Though it might not seem like the most obvious thing in the world to take a degree in, London South Bank University offer the chance to take courses in bakery, which not only covers the science based part of cooking, but offers to teach students how to manage their finances so that they can grow a business, and will apparently teach you how to become a chocolatier. Where do I sign up?
Anglia Ruskin University:
After being on the phone for approximately seven minutes with the girls, I learnt that there is a Primark concession in the London Selfridges on Bond Street, which both excites and displeases me. Frankie’s favourite song from the Greatest Hits album is ‘Higher’, as it brings back euphoric memories, whilst Una and I shared a deep
Animal Behaviour:
Not exactly a people person, but you love your dog to bits? Instead of studying the human mind with a regular psychology degree, how about learning how animals think? Anglia Ruskin University’s Cambridge campus offers an Animal Behaviour course, which teaches students how to study biological bases of animal behaviour, with first and second year modules such as “Introduction to Marine Biology,” and “Parasitology,” respectively. If you want to go into animal conservation or zoo education, this is the degree for you.
Study Marine Biology at the University of Newcastle:
So instead of learning the ways of the animal mind, maybe you’d rather opt for the ocean? Newcastle University has a course in Marine Biology, where you can take a module in “Introductory Oceanography,” or, as another option, study “Marine Zooplankton,” as
love for ‘Up’, perhaps one of my all-time favourite pop tunes. Their vivaciousness was clear to see and soon we embarked on many a tangent, from fit celebrities (from their song ‘Gentlemen’, it was decided that both Frankie and Una would choose George Clooney to go on a date with. Sorry Larry King), to Frankie and I bonding over PE teachers we shared in our Essex secondary school we both went to (Hall Mead School, in case you were wondering).
Having been together for seven years, with over fifteen singles under their belt, it would have been quite rude not to have collated their best singles together into one punchy, pop-heavy album. With classics such as ‘Up’ and
‘Issues’, it’s an album that’s bound to have you out of your seat. The album is a “celebration of the past seven years”, and the three new tracks on the album will be a tantalising preview of what’s to come from the ladies. No doubt the tour will reflect their fun-loving attitude, with the girls aiming to showcase a tour that will ooze with fun and glamour, just like them.
well as further environmental topics like climate change. Sounds fun if you like that kind of thing.
Though all jokes aside, taking a course that isn’t quite so conventional might turn out to be a better idea than previously thought. We all know it’s getting harder and harder to find graduate level jobs, especially when the market is being saturated by people who are taking degrees not because they want to, but because they believe there’s a better chance of employability at the end: I know I was told to do an English Literature degree as opposed to a Creative Writing one because it seemed like a subject that wouldn’t be taken seriously by employers. But surely there comes a tipping point where there a genuinely too many lawyers or I.T technicians, and who knows? Maybe there will be plenty of demand for parapsychologists…
