THE REAL VALUE OF A SUMMER JOB
As the college term ends and we head into summer, you are probably looking for ways to make some money over the long break, but there is more to be gained from a summer job than just extra pennies.
When you apply for university, an apprenticeship or a full-time job the
experience you gain through summer and part-time jobs can be a fantastic talking
point and the easiest way to impress employers and admissions officers.
No matter what job you take on, you will have to project a lot of similar skills. Whether it is working at the swimming pool, at a festival or your local café, you should be able to talk about your experience and how they have made you a more employable person, and here’s how:
Organisation
Almost every single job will require you to be at a certain place at a certain time, and you will have to juggle your personal life around it. This may seem like a pretty simple aspect of a job, but it still requires an amount of organisation and you should feel confident speaking in interviews about times when this has been a challenge and how you overcame it.
