ndependent property adviser GVA has let the Wolverhampton Zenith Control Centre – a purpose-built, high specification control


centre – on behalf of the Department for Communities and Local Government (DCLG). The fully secured facility on Wolverhampton


Business Park has been let to local business OOSHA Co Ltd, an ICT solutions provider currently based in central Wolverhampton. Andy Venables, GVA’s director of national markets , said: “The Zenith Control Centre provides a walk-in solution for OOSHA and I am extremely pleased that the high specification finish, in-built technology and resilient, secure environment fitted the company’s requirements. “Of the nine control centre buildings


originally developed, four have already been let to branches of the emergency services, but this is the first to be let to a private sector SME, which only goes to prove the great versatility of the buildings. “OOSHA is exactly the type of local SME business that DCLG was hoping to attract when the Zenith Control Centres were first marketed.” Matthew Newton, operations director of OOSHA,


said: “The building was relaunched in the new year as the OOSHA Technology Centre, with the primary ambition of providing exceptional meeting and learning facilities for local schools, colleges and business people. The centre also provides local businesses with internet connectivity, data hosting and IT services via a new data centre that will be the equal of anything else in the UK.”

A Solihull businessman has taken over as chairman of the Trussed Rafter Association (TRA). Richard Evans, managing director of Scotts Timber Engineering, based in Shirley, succeeds Paul Baron. With more than 30 years


employment within the timber industry, Richard is well placed to take the helm. He held director-level positions at Wyckham Blackwell before establishing Scotts Timber Engineering, a subsidiary of Scotts of Thrapston, in 2012, and has been an active member of the TRA for seven years. Richard said: “I am delighted


to say that the timber industry has taken a very positive turn in the last 12 months and things are feeling more confident, thanks to a range of factors that have influenced the market.”


Regeneration specialist St Modwen has been given the go-ahead for its plans for the multi-million pound extension of a school in Staffordshire. The work at Rykneld Primary School in Branston will involve the construction of a two-storey extension featuring 10 new classrooms, extra staff and pupil support rooms and a large sports hall. In addition, an all- weather pitch is being created alongside improved play areas. The extension, which will

West Midlands based contractor Shaylor Group has announced a positive start to 2014 with a significant number of new contracts and framework wins in both the public and private sectors. Continuing its growing presence in


the student accommodation sector, a new £5m contract with Mansion Group has been secured to refurbish and create additional capacity to Danesgate House student accommodation in Lincoln. This new contract further strengthens Shaylor’s relationship with Mansion Group, making it the eighth project awarded to Shaylor since 2011. In the same sector, new contracts have been awarded in Aberdeen and Leeds for another leading student accommodation provider. Other important new wins include projects covering the heritage, justice, leisure and automotive sectors. Shaylor Group is also continuing its success in the


framework arena with two new significant appointments. In the public sector it has been


appointed to Cambridgeshire County Council’s Minor Works framework, which covers minor maintenance, refurbishment and alteration projects, for a period of four years.
