New faces on committee

S

olihull Chamber’s executive committee has been boosted by two new members, Stuart Baker and Shaun Hindle.

The latter is a senior director at Solihull College, and is a

replacement on the committee for Brenda Shiels, who retired as college principal in February. Stuart Baker is site strategy executive of Rolls Royce-

owned Aero Engine Controls (AEC), a company which can trace its history back to the earliest days of jet engine development in the UK. He has worked for AEC and its predecessors since 1991, when he was employed as a graduate mechanical engineer. In recent years he has held a number of senior positions at AEC and is currently responsible for developing a new £75m advanced manufacturing and technology facility at Birmingham Business Park. Once complete, AEC’s Birmingham-based activities will be moved to this facility, along with 1,200 staff. Mr Baker said that he was keen to join the

committee in order to play a part in shaping the economic development of the region. He added that he was particularly

interested in helping local businesses know where to go and who to turn to when they needed help or advice from the various bodies responsible for supporting business and commerce in the region.

He said: “There are various bodies and groups of people who are working on the development of the region, and it is sometimes difficult for people to know who to turn to. “I would like to hep to create
