village homes APROPOSALfor 130 homes on the edge of Coxheath has been submit- ted.

Countryside Properties has

asked Maidstone Council if it needs to carry out an environmental im- pact assessment before submitting a planning application to build on four hectares of land north of Heath Road. A supporting statement claims

the proposed estate – 650m east of the village centre – is well served by shops, a GP surgery and bus service. The land has been allocated for 130 homes in Maidstone Coun- cil’s draft local plan. The scheme would include af- fordable homes and would be ac- cessed from Heath Road.

News Plan for 130 Road repair continues

KCC SAYS it has been working around the clock to get the road through Leeds re-opened – but, ac- cording to the parish council, it could still take until the summer. Katie Lewis, KCC’s drainage and

flood manager, said work to re- build the road was progressing after huge holes were found under the tarmac in Upper Street in No- vember. She said:“We have beenworking

seven days a week since before Christmas to fill the voids and sta-

bilise the surrounding ground. “This work is now complete and

we are preparing the site so the util- ity services can be reinstated and the road reconstructed.“ However, villagers have learned

the re-opening will coincide with roadworks inWillington Street. KCC member Gary Cooke said:

“This has to be the case due to the fact thatWillington Street acts as a diversion for the B2163 while this remains closed. It does not follow that the reversewould be true.

“I can confirm that KCC would

not consider the B2163 through Leeds as an appropriate diversion route as Willington Street is the designated lorry route and there is aweight restriction on the B2163.” Cllr Cooke said KCC would be looking at phasing the work in Willington Street. In the meantime, the parish council is pressing ahead with its plan to enforce the village weight limit on lorries by advertis- ing for two voluntary police con- stables, which it will pay to train.
