“The meetings industry is connected to

several parties that each have their role and contribution, based on their speciality and their responsibilities,” confi rms Al Omran. “We think that each of these institutions is involved in the progress and the advancement of the industry. High hopes certainly rest on RICEC, thanks to its complete infrastructure and its expansive conference area, as well as its advanced facilities – it remains the biggest in KSA. But all the relevant institutions should help support the sector and the efforts to grow the industry, so as to benefi t the local economy in the near future as a main growth factor.”

INTERNATIONAL AMBITIONS Although domestic and regional events will form the basis of the activity at RICEC, Al Omran is keen to highlight that over half of the exhibitions count as “international”, with a healthy number of exhibitors and delegates coming from overseas markets. More large global trade shows are now the aim, with Asia a major target. The venue has already been hosting an annual Chinese commodity exhibition for the last four years. “I honestly believe and this is far from an

exaggeration, that we will be hard to beat in the next few years,” says Al Omran, talking about Saudi Arabia as a whole as much as RICEC. “We lack neither fi nancial resources nor the necessary support to succeed.”
