STUDENTS DRIVE AUGMENTED REALITY PROJECT at Harper Adams

Two Harper Adams University business students have taken a marketing idea that began in the classroom and turned it into reality - or rather augmented reality!

An eye-catching globe of images of student life at Harper Adams University, which spins into action when scanned with a mobile phone app, was developed in conjunction with second year students Jacob Bower and Antonia Evans, both from Lancashire, as a spin-off from a class about integrated marketing techniques.

“We have adopted various smaller ideas from students’ in-class pitches”, explained Web and New Media Manager James Armstrong. “But this idea really stood out so I wanted to use it in the new

alternative prospectus.”

James and Antonia reviewed other universities’ alternative prospectuses and said that few struck the right balance between being too corporate or too heavily-focussed on student partying.

“We also looked at what the Harper Adams marketing team was already doing and picked up on the Our World campaign. We thought we could put a student twist on it and struck upon the idea of having this world in our hands and showing scenes of Harper life from day to night, academic to social,” Jacob said.
