worried and cautious” – pretty negative!
Whilst some of you did tell us you were also excited and enthusiastic, these responses were few amongst a sea of worried souls.
To get a better insight into what was causing the negativity, we also asked what your main concerns were, with “too much competition” being the outstanding winner, followed by “not enough jobs” and “other candidates have more experience”.
First year students were much more concerned with other candidates being from more prestigious universities than any other year group, whereas final
year studies were worried that the employers’ expectations were too high, reflecting how your awareness of the recruitment changes as you progress through university.
What are we doing? We have used this information to develop the best resources to help you in the jobhunt. 76 per cent of students and graduates feel that an internship or work placement would make them feel more confident, so not only do we advertise hundreds of internship roles available, we provide tips on how to write your CV to maximise your current experience, advice on how to contact employers to enquire about them offering a short-term
placement and opportunities to ask recruiters questions one-to- one in live Q&A’s on site.
You also told us that speaking to a career mentor would help, so we partnered with mentorship experts IME, and have so far connected over 70 graduates with industry experts to mentor them.
But it doesn’t stop there. The feedback we get from you is crucial in helping us develop the Milkround website, so take a look around the site, ask us some questions and let us know what you really want to hear about to make you feel more confident about your future career.
