ELENA SAVELIEVA CAME TO WMG IN 2010 TO STUDY FOR AN MSC IN SUPPLY CHAIN AND LOGISTICS MANAGEMENT.

“After graduating in my native Russia, I had worked in China as a Logistics and Supply Chain Manager for a major sports products company. I was enjoying my work but I realised that to develop my career in international business, I really needed a higher degree from a well-recognised university.

What followed was a lot of extensive research into schools in the UK and USA. I received five offers but WMG stood out for me. After looking into the programme itself, talking to people, reading reviews about Warwick and also listening to what people in industry were saying, I decided that a year at WMG was the best option.

The course itself was very different from anything I had experienced before. It was certainly challenging with lots of intensive lectures and project work, but very rewarding too.

One of the most valuable things for me was the chance to learn from guest lecturers who were working in industry: professionals who were out there doing the job at the cutting-edge of industry developments. They brought the theory to life and we could

see very clearly how it could be applied to improve the way global businesses operate.

Another thing I enjoyed a lot was the opportunity to work closely with fellow students who came from many different nationalities and backgrounds – shipping and marketing for example. Working through problems with people who bring such diverse outlooks helps you to see things from a completely new perspective.

The projects that we did together provided a terrific learning experience. For example, we would work as a company with everyone in the group taking on a different role like finance manager or operations manager. We would then collaborate and share ideas as we steered our business through various challenges and opportunities.

These exercises and simulations helped us to see how the ideas we learned could be applied in real business situations.

There was plenty of support at Warwick to look for jobs during my time there. But I preferred to focus on my studies and began searching for a new role after I left in 2011. I was offered a job at Sainsbury’s as an Import Operations Controller in their

Store Support Centre in Coventry. I enjoyed the job and increased my experience and then in September 2013 progressed into a new role in one of the UK's leading independent freight forwarding companies - Allport Cargoservices. I now work in the company as Client Executive in the Supply Chain Management Division and am really enjoying it.

I put into practice every day what I learnt at WMG. But what I have learnt has also enabled me to see things from a wider business perspective.

Moving to the UK to study was a big decision for me, but I can honestly say that it was the right move to make. I gained so much from my year and I know that I will continue to reap the rewards long into the future".
