TSD Conference general sessions, workshops cover pressing operational, safety and training- related issues for special needs transporters

ttendees at this year’s Transporting Students with Disabilities Conference were fortunate to not only brave the weather to travel to Nashville, Tenn.,


but to have their school district pay for them to be at the five-day event that featured general sessions and workshops tackling current issues in special needs transportation. Tis year’s conference, held at the Gaylord Opry- land Resort and Convention Center, drew more than 400 attendees, about a 15 percent increase from last year. Additionally, 71 companies exhibited this year, up from 45 last year, during the half-day trade show. Fifty-seven percent of this year’s crowd were first-time attendees, which means more special needs student transporters will return to their school district passing along current information on training, learning lessons and best practices for their colleagues to absorb and implement. The Nashville area only averages about 5 inches of snow a year, so this dusting on the second day of the conference shut down many highways and nearby roads, which caused some delays for conference attendees.
