Sonoma County, CA. ~ On January 25, 2014, the Santa Rosa Sunrise Rotary Club sponsored its fifth health care mission to the San Juan River region of Nicaragua. On this trip, 16 members and friends of the Club traveled to Nicaragua for an eye and dental mission to the village of Esperanza. After two days of travel, the team made a daily trek via boat and bus from the Sabalos Lodge to the village of Esperanza where we completed three full days of work in the village from January 27-29.

227 patients, did 242 extrac- tions and 127 fillings, and were busy every minute!

The eye care team exam- ined 1,041 patients, dispensed 656 prescription eye glasses and 745 pairs of sunglasses to prevent damage from the sun, wind, and dirt in this agricul- tural region. We also screened for cataracts and pterigiums. All work was completed on the

this mission included a husband and wife dentist team from Managua, a dentist from Boca de Sabalos, an optometrist from Managua, five Peace Corps volunteers, and two volunteers from Costa Rica. Our next vision/dental mis-


sion is scheduled for 2016. We are also partnering to build a much-needed surgery center in Boca de Sabalos and John brings other mission groups to the region as well.

I LOVE IT HERE!


He may be nearly 10 pounds, but he loves to play! Apollo is 7 years old and is a siamese mix and loves kibbles and catnip. At WFC there are so many toys with catnip that Apollo has a tough time making up his mind which one to bite into fi rst.
