ed to go find one. Not back east, even though my wife loves the snow, but up on the coast of Oregon, just shy of the Washington state border. We found winter in all its glory for sure, and our timing couldn't have been better. Not only was there rain and wind, there were clouds the entire seven days. I really miss the clouds, the shapes and the colors they make throughout the day with the changing of the sun's light. As an artist, it is very inspiring! Plus, you know you are in a storm when the windows of

appear to be breathing in and out with each gust of wind, sometimes reaching 100mph, and the sound of the wood underneath the roof creaking as though the house was alive! We stayed at several homes from Coos Bay, Lincoln City and Rockaway Beach, all in Oregon, all in close proxim- ity to the beach, where we scoured for shells and fos- sils. The most memorable was Rockaway Beach, where the cover of this issue's Upbeat Times was taken. When we originally left

for the trip,

our intention was to experi- ence intense weather with rain and wind. And we got it. We love storms here in the Doyle household, thanks to my dad's

into our mouths. Off in the distance, downwind, looking south, you could just see the squalls approach because the logs, some huge, would dis- appear completely. Seconds later..wham. What a blast! The entire time, we stood together holding hands and steadying each other. A couple of times we got nearly blown over. Our

friends in Oregon had told us....that's nothing! And what a truth it is too. I could not imaging being in a hurricane with winds sustained at 125 mph. Although, our friends in Coos Bay said that a recent storm not long ago had winds as high as 135mph. Winds of 50-60 miles per hour are intense enough.

HOW LONG WILL IT TAKE?

Some seagulls were spotted trying to brave the wind, but mother nature slowly pushed them back. After over 1-1/2 hours we decided to come back into the house and watch the rest of the storm from inside and to warm up a bit. It was only 45 degrees out- side, but the wind chill, even
